Annual Quilt
Market Information
A myriad of traditional yet
colorful Amish quilt designs, enhanced with both dimensional and
appliquéd floral patterns are the featured attraction at the annual
Door County Amish Quilt Markets. Treadle sewing machines are used to
insure even seams as the Amish work without electricity. All quilting
is done by hand as in old order Amish tradition.
Regular sized quilts as well as
queen and king-sized quilts will be on display on either a double-queen or king-sized display bed and will be turned on a regular basis
for show goers to view. Gloves are always worn to protect the
beautiful quilts from being handled by the public and are turned by
show employees. Some baby quilts will also be available.
In addition to the quilts a wide
selection of wall hangings in a variety of sizes, patterns and colors
will be on hand. Pillows, table runners, place mats, pot holders,
table centers, spice mats, mini-quilt pins, rugs, Amish dolls and
many other interesting gifts depicting the Amish will be on display.
Several excellent books on quilting patterns and Amish quilt trends
and tips for quilters will also be available.
Amish calendars for the upcoming
year will be
on hand. This calendar created by noted photographer, Doyle Yoder,
features photographs of Amish life taken in settlements throughout the
United States.
Several Amish recipe books will
be available as well as a variety of excellent paper-back books
highlighting many aspects of Amish life. The "Reuben" collector series
of children's books featuring noted artist P. Buckley Moss with the
Amish stories written by Merle Good will be available along
with other children's books. Children's play aprons with crayons,
kitchen utensils or work tools and coloring books depicting Amish life
will be for sale as well.
The Amish families
from Wisconsin, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania have worked the entire winter
preparing for these annual shows and know you will be pleased with all
that will be on display.
Quilter’s Quest is proud to be joining the
Jacksonport Craft Cottage in the Amish Quilt Shows in Sister Bay this
year. Owner, Linda Batley, will be demonstrating some extraordinary
items. Come and see a
mysterious 4-sided placemat, a “Toothbrush Needle” rug or placemat and
paper-piecing blocks (to make some stunning quilts, throws and wall
hangings).
Come and meet Linda and try your hand with these
awesome and easy techniques. The “Toothbrush Needle”
rug/placemat is a no-sew, take along project for those long drives, or
watching a magnificent sunset or while watching TV. Discover what
fascinating patterns the “magic mirror” will reveal with the
paper-piecing technique.
Quilter’s Quest is a full service quilt shop (with
the emphasis on service) with over 3,000 bolts of fabric, among those
are Asian, brights and children’s novelty fabrics, hand-dyed batiks,
landscape, lighthouse and cherry fabrics. Quilter’s Quest, located in
the Country Walk Shops in Sister Bay, offers over 200 books, endless
patterns, as well as, some unusual notions to assist you in your
“quest” for creating your quilted masterpiece.
An entry fee of $1 will be charged at the door
for each Quilt Show. Children age 8 and under are admitted free but
must be attended by an adult at all times.
